CP- 4601 PAO BASED SYNTHETIC ROTARY SCREW AIR COMPRESSOR LUBRICANT

CP-4601 Series are available in many viscosity grades from ISO (international Standards Organization) VG 5 to 1000. Most common types of twin screw air compressors use ISO VG 46. This is specified as CP-4601-46. Other common grades for air are ISO VG 32 and 68. Many other applications, such as light hydrocarbon gas (for example landfill gas or methane) use ISO VG 100 (or CP-4601-100).

CP-4601 Series is just one of our many products offered for rotary screw compressors. CP- 4601 series is based on PAO (polyalphaolefin) type synthetics blended with other types of synthetic base fluids and additives to extend operating life and prevent corrosion. CPI Engineering Services, Inc. has produced this type of commercial product longer than any other company in the world. The CP-4601 Series is currently our most popular rotary screw air compressor lubricant.

Our Para-4 series are lower cost semi-synthetic rotary screw air compressor coolants based on PAO and super refined high pressure hydrotreated base fluids - offering up to four times the life of conventional mineral oils or other semi-synthetic and hydrotreated products.

PROVEN ADVANTAGES

Extended Life	CP-4601 PAO (Polyalphaolefin) based lubricant/coolant has superior oxidative stability and has repeatedly shown extended service life up to eight times that of some mineral oils used in oil flooded rotary screw compressors.
Cleaner Operation	CP-4601 eliminates sludge and varnish build-up during normal operation due to excellent thermal and oxidative stability. A clean system extends equipment life and operates more efficiently.
Compatibility	CP-4601 is compatible with all materials of construction in the compressor system and is not harmful to materials down-stream, such as elastomers, paints, plastics used at downstream air filter/regulator stations, etc.
Wide Temperature Operating Range	CP-4601 has a high natural viscosity index which is characteristic of the base fluid and is not obtained by the use of additives. Stable viscosity allows for cold temperature starting, pumpability, adequate viscosity for bearing lubrication and lower power consumption. Due to high flash and auto-ignition points, CP-4601 offers the advantage of greater fire resistance.
Low Volatility	CP-4601 has substantially lower volatility than mineral oil which results in reduced carryover and lower make-up requirements
Excellent Water Separation Demulsification	CP - 4601 is non polar and absorbs less water under high humidity. Excellent demulsification and hydrolytic stability and Hydrolytic Stability promote extended lubricant/coolant life in high humidity environments and result in longer bearing life.
Low water absorption	Tests performed by an independent bearing company show that water concentrations in excess of 500 ppm cause a marked drop in bearing life.
Chemically Inert	The base fluids and additives in CP- 4601 have been carefully selected to provide resistance to degradation when hostile chemicals are present. Although the lubricant life may be reduced, it will out perform most other mineral oils and synthetics.
Non toxic/Non hazardous	CP - 4601 is considered non toxic and non hazardous under the OSHA Right to Know Law 29 CFR1910.1200. No hazardous labels are required under this standard
Non hazardous Waste	CP-4601 is not considered a hazardous waste according to EPA regulations governing waste oil transportation or disposal unless contaminated by a hazardous waste during operation. CP-4601 contains no heavy metals or chlorine.
Much shorter fluid life	Much shorter fluid life has been generally attributed to preventable factors that may shorten the life of any lubricant.

HOW TO MAINTAIN

CP-4601 is rated at 8,000 hours life in a standard air compressor under normal operating conditions (110 psig, 190 oF or about 90 oC). This compares favourable to mineral oil based lubricants which must be drained at 1000 to 2000 hours. It is recommended that CP-4601 used under normal operating conditions in a standard air compressor be changed at 8,000 hours or annually. Filters and separators should be changed on the schedule recommended by the OEM.

Maintenance practices - Synthetic lubricants are problem solvers and provide many advantages over mineral oils, but should not be wholly substituted for good maintenance.

Failure to remove previously oxidized lubricants - Residual oxidized material in the form of sludge, varnish or severely oxidized fluid (having a high acid number) left in the system will cause rapid depletion of the antioxidant additive package and lead to premature oxidative degradation of the fluid. Consult CPI for all conversions and circumstances discussed for assistance.

Operating conditions - Elevated discharge temperatures and pressures can also reduce a lubricants life. Typically, for every 18EF (10EF) above 180EF, the life of any lubricant is halved. Pressures above 150 psi can also reduce lubricant life.
